Looking from the South End

At long last, construction work has started at Columbus Center, the enormous and controversial mixed use development project that will include over 400 condominiums, a 35 story hotel, various retail spaces and parking to built east of the Back Bay Train Station over the Mass Pike. The Boston Globe reports today that the drilling machines will arrive next week. After the concrete piles are competed, the decking will be built over the Pike and train tracks from Clarendon Street to Arlington Street. The construction site joins the 65 unit 285 Columbus and the 50 unit Bryant on Columbus, two other residential construction projects already underway in the South End 1 block down from Columbus Center, as well as the the 400 unit Clarendon, one block over next to the Hard Rock Cafe.

We can all expect … well, we all have our own expectations. As a real estate agent, my own expectations include a thriving market for years to come. I have to say, I also really regret selling my Appleton Street condo 10 years ago !
