The conclusion of the seasonal street cleaning in the Back Bay is fast approaching and for a short while, for those of us without deeded parking, Monday parking in the Back Bay feels a bit like weekends in the summer when your chances of finding street parking within 1/2 a block of your destination is not that unusual. Enjoy it while you can because winter is not far off and all it takes is a good snow followed by an extended period of cold for the us to lose out to winter parkers’ nemesis, frozen piles of ice and snow, often as large as small cars themselves. The problem is that in a bad year, those piles don’t budge for weeks on end.

Street cleaning is seasonal from April 1 through November 30. The Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay has a great web resource for information on parking restrictions, meters, street cleaning, etc.

Parking restrictions for street cleaning are critical to maintaining the cleanliness of the neighborhood. The east-west streets are cleaned on Monday mornings between 8:00 and 12:00, with the odd numbered side swept on the first and third Monday of the month and the even side on the second and fourth Monday. When there are five Mondays in a month, there are no restrictions on the fifth Monday. The cross streets are cleaned on Wednesday mornings between 6:00 and 8:00. The same schedule of weeks applies.
